Grave PG755
The act of burying sacrificial bodies was not unique to the ancient
world, however, we have yet to discover evidence that such rituals
occurred at any other period in this specific region. Why the Sumerians
chose to bury certain members of their society with human escorts remains
at that particular time remains a topic open for debate.
The accompanying image records the "golden wig of Meskalamdug" in
situ in Pit PG 755 of the University Of Pennsylvania's Ur
excavations. Click on the photo for a view of the restored "wig".
