Course Description
 

An intensive introduction to the architecture of the Neoclassical century (ca. 1750-1850), as it made its appearance all over Europe and parts of North America.  Following an exploration of the roots and intellectual preconditions of this "true style," a selection of major monuments in France, Germany, Britain, and the USA will be analyzed as well as some forms of Neoclassical revival in the early decades of the 20th century. Field trips to the Second Bank Building and the Art Museum in Philadelphia.
