A survey of art and architecture in Italy during the fifteenth century, concentrating on such centers as Florence and Venice,dwelling upon artists in the noble succession that runs from Brunelleschi, Donatello and Masaccio to Piero della Francesca. Giovanni Bellini, and Leonardo, and focusing on that singular invention of the fifteenth century, perspectival space, as constructed in architecture, animated by sculpture, and imaged in painting, as both a contribution to antiquity's renewal and the revision of more medieval.
