The Minor in the History of Art, like the Major, aims to deepen students’ knowledge of artistic production and practice over the scope of human history.  A Minor program in art history may complement the student’s Major in a cognate field, or it may be unrelated to the student’s primary field instruction.

The minor in History of Art consists of 6 c.u., which will include:

• Two survey courses: ARTH 001 and ARTH 002 are the standard surveys.
Students must take at least one of these two courses. ARTH 103 or 104
may be taken for the second survey course if desired. Under NO
circumstances will credit be given for ARTH 001, 002, 101, or 102
taken elsewhere.

• Four courses at the 200-level or above, ONE of which may be a
300-level seminar. One course may also be in a related field, taken
outside the Art History department, subject to the approval of the
Undergraduate Chair.

Minors are encouraged to distribute their courses geographically and
chronologically.
